August in Portugal is a time when most Portuguese, regardless of their profession, take a vacation. It's a time when everyone, from shop owners to office workers, takes a break, with many shops and restaurants closing for one to two weeks. It's a month when it's widely understood that 'No one works in August.'
While major grocery stores and the transportation system remain open, the majority of people take a few weeks off for a family vacation. This tradition, far from being a mere break, is a crucial time for individuals to recharge, disconnect, and return to work with renewed energy and focus. It's a time to explore new places, spend quality time with loved ones, and come back feeling invigorated and ready to take on new challenges. So, that's what I am doing. Taking some time to hang out with friends and see new places in Portugal.
